How Does Therapy Work?

Starting therapy can be a tricky experience to navigate! For those who are new to the therapeutic process and even for those who have been in therapy in the past, it can be confusing! How to find a therapist, what to talk about, what kind of style you like, and whether or not to use insurance are just a sampling of questions one faces when thinking about finding a therapist.

In my practice, the steps to setting up an appointment are as follows:

  1. Send me an email or give me a call. Leave your name, phone number, and email address.
  2. We will set up a 15 minute intake phone call. During this phone call we will talk about what you are looking for with therapy, see if our availability matches, and set up an initial assessment. If we find that we are not the right match, if our availability doesn’t work, or if I feel there is a referral or area of treatment that is a better fit I will provide resources to the best of my ability.
  3. If it is a match, I highly recommend 3 sessions for the assessment phase. After these 3 sessions, we will collaboratively come up with treatment goals and get started.
  4. I am an out-of-network provider, meaning I don’t accept insurance. I do offer SuperBills, which some insurance plans accept for reimbursement. I also accept sliding scale payment dependent on need.
  5. Therapy can be both short term and long term, termination will depend on progress with goals and behavioral changes. This is always an open conversation!

*Please Note: I am currently operating at Telehealth only practice. I see clients via SimplePractice video platform that is HIPAA compliant and secure.

Fees

My current fee is $200 per 50 minute session. I do provide a sliding scale in 3 levels- $125, $150, $180. Sliding scale is on an as needed basis. If you need a sliding scale fee, do not hesitate to ask, as I do not want fees to be a barrier to treatment.

I do take Lyra Health, so check with your employer to see if you have Lyra as a benefit!

I also provide superbills for clients able to submit for partial reimbursement from their insurance company. Please check in with your insurance to see if you are eligible for reimbursement!
